Africa Modelling Bridge a modelling movement

Team

A small core. A wide working-modeller network.

AMB v0.0 is held by a lead consultant and a senior adviser, with country anchors in active conversation. Around that core, a pro-bono network of working modellers contributes methods review — and from v0.5, dossier-by-dossier matching to researchers.

Working-modeller network

The methods conscience.

These are the pro-bono advisers AMB consults before publishing methods notes or matching a researcher to a dossier. They are not staff; they are the bench every methodological choice is checked against. The working-modeller advisory model is documented in governance.

  • Nick Golding

    Bayesian inference · geospatial

Creator of greta; UWA Chair in Infectious Disease Modelling; Director of Malaria Ecology at MAP. Pro-bono lens on every methods question that touches the spatial / Bayesian stack.

  • IDEM-LAB

    Infectious-disease ecology

Nick Golding's lab at The Kids Research Institute Australia. Methods sparring partners for ACEFA, surveillance modelling and species-distribution work.

  • Malaria Atlas Project

    Malaria geospatial atlas

Standing reference for the cartographic and SNT-adjacent modelling work the dossiers will reproduce, extend, or critique.

  • Vector Atlas

    Vector ecology atlas

The consortium Ernest sits inside as a PhD candidate — methods continuity from his own research into AMB's vector-ecology dossiers.

  • AIMS network

    African Institute for Mathematical Sciences

Continental supply of MSc / PhD modellers — AMB's primary pipeline for researcher matching from v0.5 onward.

  • ACEFA

African Centre of Excellence for Forecasting Africa

Continental forecasting and surveillance-modelling collective. Working-modeller advisers for time-series and outbreak work.

Joining AMB

Three doors in.

AMB is small by design. Engagement at v0.0 is concrete — a country anchor seat, a pro-bono adviser role, or a researcher matched to an open dossier.

01 · Country anchors

For ministry-side senior researchers.

A senior researcher or programme officer co-curates one country's document index and supervises its first dossier. Honorarium attached. One seat per country.

Open · TZ · MW · DRC

02 · Working-modeller advisers

For methods leads in IDEM-LAB / MAP / Vector Atlas / AIMS / ACEFA.

Pro-bono. One or two methods consultations per quarter, named on the dossiers you touch, no committee meetings. The lens, not the labour.

Rolling · pro-bono

03 · Researchers

For BSc / MSc / PhD students seeking a dossier match.

Self-nominate against an open dossier from v0.5. Each match comes with a question, a supervisor, a working-modeller adviser, a budget ask, and an open-access output.

Matching opens v0.5
